She was born October 3, 1924 to James E. and Alice E. Lord in Kingman County Kansas.
Ethel attended grade school at Prairie Home School then Kingman High School, graduating in 1943. She moved to Wichita to work for Boeing as “Rosie the Riveter” during World War 2. Ethel married Henry Thorne in 1943, he died in 1976. She then married Hubert Barker in 1986, he died in 1993. Ethel remained in Amarillo working for the school system in the kitchen as a cook, also at bakeries baking cakes and her love was to decorate them.She did this until she retired. She was a dedicated person always wanting to help everyone. Ethel loved to volunteer at Hospice offices doing paper work until her health declined. She was a very religious person ministering to those in need. Ethel also did a lot of things that enjoyed being around and with people.
She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three brothers, and one sister, and oldest daughter Ozella. Ethel is survived by son; Dale Thorne of Kansas City, twin sons; Donald (Leslie) and Ronald (Janet) Thorne, and daughter; Ethel Jane (Craig) Annen, one sister; Rosie Fetterman of Amarillo, Texas, two step daughters; Loritta Kaiser, Llano, Texas and Beverly (Dave) Robinson of Amarillo, 9 grand-children; Danielle Thorne, Shurrie Spray (Dave), Tyler Thorne, Aaron Thorne (Kerre), Lindsey McDivitt (James), Kristen Woodman, Brandon Annen (Kylie), Clayton Cox, and Wade Cox, 8 great-grand-children; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; several great nieces and great nephews and cousins.
