Emory D. Johnson, 81, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, in Amarillo.
Emory was born in Bee County on June 11, 1929, and raised in San Antonio. He married Dorothy Robbins on Dec. 26, 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1956. After being discharged he attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1960 with a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduating from UT he moved to Amarillo and worked for the Bureau of Mines in helium field operations for 34 years before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture. He was a lifelong member of Church of Christ and attended Church of Christ at The Colonies.
He was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Johnson of Amarillo; a son, David Johnson and wife Verena of Amarillo; two daughters, Michelle Collier and husband Gregg of Houston and Dawn Mitrelle Drew and husband Irv of Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren.
