Born on September 29, 1931 in Olden, Texas. Doug worked for El Paso natural gas for over 50 years before retiring and moving to Amarillo, Texas. Doug was determined to build a life that provided a strong foundation for his family for generations to come. He lived a life filled with love, laughter, and compassion. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirt.
Doug was a dedicated family man and a pillar of his community. He was known for his tireless work ethic, his passion for helping others, and his intense love of his family. Whether he was spending time with his family or sharing stories with friends, Doug always brought warmth and joy through his ornery sense of humor. Of the many memories, here a few we have kept close. Whether being asked "is that your dog behind you?" to being the go-to man to ease the fear of things like pulling teeth, he was a comfort to many. He was always full of wise life lessons like the three things in life to most look out for; rattlesnakes, electricity and married women. Every family meal, you couldn't sit at the table without "did you wash your hands Roger?" His most recent favorite he could be quoted as saying was, "growing old is not for sissy's." One of Dorothy's most fond memories is a day that "her cup runneth over." It was the day Doug and their two children shared in being baptized on the same day. Doug lived and loved life to the fullest and left us with many many memories we will cherish for a lifetime.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Armstrong; his children, Alan Armstrong and wife, Debbie of Amarillo, and Becky Hunnicutt and husband, Ken of Tyler; his grandchildren, Crystal Pryer and husband, Jeramy of Amarillo, Keri McDonald and husband, Tim of Tyler, April Reep and husband, Jerod of McKinney, Ryan Hunnicutt of Tyler, and Adam Armstrong and wife, Amanda of Amarillo; and 12 great-grandchildren who will continue to cherish his memory and legacy.
A celebration of life will be held on February 24, 2024 at Trinity Baptist Church at 1pm. In Lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to Trinity Baptist Church in memory of Doug Armstrong.
