Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2018, from 4pm-6pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, with Rosary to follow. Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at 10am located at St. Mary's Cathedral. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Don Haley was born in Amarillo, Texas, August 16, 1947, to H.N. and Fay Haley. He lived in Amarillo all his life. Don's life was an incredible journey filled with joy and adventure. He was many things to different people; warrior, hero, father, son, husband, grandfather, brother, uncle, leader, teacher, protector and friend. He graduated from Price Academy in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1967 and served three tours in the Republic of Vietnam and trained many Amarillo Marine Reservists for combat for over 22 years. He retired in 1988 with the rank 1st Sergeant. He graduated from the Amarillo Police Academy in 1975. He served 14 years on S.W.A.T., 28 years on the Bomb Team, 10 years in Narcotics and he rode a beat on the Northside of Amarillo for several years. He was a firearms instructor, an armorer, an E.O.D. instructor and the department's sniper for several years. He retired from the Amarillo Police Department in August of 2007 after 32 years of service to the people of Amarillo. He married Loy Szydloski Haley on December 30, 1995, in Amarillo.
Survivors include his wife Loy; three sons, 1st Sergeant David Haley (USMC, Ret.) and wife, Renee, Daniel Haley, and wife Elizabeth, Phillip Szydloski and wife Lacie; one daughter, Megan Szydloski Reed and husband Wesley "Hutch" Reed; and three brothers, his twin, Dale Haley and wife Janie, Gary Haley and wife Janie, Stan Haley and wife Denice; one sister Charlotte Haley Malone; and numerous nieces and nephews; and eight grandchildren.
