Bobby Maurice "Bob" Scott

Vigil will be at 6 p.m. today in Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Mass will be celebrated at

11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Cathedral with Monsignor Harold Waldow officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.

Bob was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Aspermont to William R. and Ora Lee Scott, one of nine children raised in a small West Texas town. As a youth, his working career started in the cotton fields of his sharecropper father. In 1939, he graduated from Aspermont High School, where he was a champion tennis player. He had a variety of jobs until joining the Army in 1940. He became a pilot in North Africa, transporting troops and equipment. His missions included the Berlin Airlift, and he also flew as a hurricane pilot. Bob retired as lieutenant colonel from the Air Force in December 1960 after 20 years of service. Bob, Norma and the children moved from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Amarillo in 1959. After retiring from the military, he sold insurance and worked as a water well supply salesman. He became interested in water wells and started Bob Scott Water Well Service in 1977. As owner of the business, he worked every day until September 2009.

Bob married Kathryn “Katy” Kobler on Jan. 13, 1943, in Lubbock. They had four children together. Katy died from polio in 1952. Bob married Norma Kruse on April 24, 1954, in Sacramento, Calif., and they were married 54 years until her death in 2008. Bob and Norma were both active in St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, and Bob was a Grand Knight in Knights of Columbus. He believed you should always give more than you receive, and don’t make excuses or blame others for the problems you encounter in life. He followed and lived that philosophy his entire life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delbert, Don and Jimmie; two sisters, Billie and Inez; and his wives, Kathryn and Norma.

The family suggests memorials be to St. Mary’s School.

Survivors include two brothers, Buster Scott and wife Virginia of Southlake or Rodger Scott and wife Maria-Theresa of San Francisco; a sister, Imogene “Gene” Means of Ransom Canyon; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Scott of Lubbock; three sons, Michael Scott and wife Martha of Arlington and Robert Scott and wife Donna and John Scott and wife Elaine, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Ann Brisley and husband Pete of Silverton; 12 grandchildren, Robin, Katherine, Cody, Kara, Rachel, Daniel, Megan, Lela, Mindy, Jason, Michael and Abraham; seven great-

grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
