She was born September 12, 1932 in Smith County Texas to John and Lelda Daniels. Barbara grew up in Port Arthur Texas where she attended High School. She then went to Lamar University in Beaumont, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. She then went to LSU in Baton Rouge and obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work. Through High School, she planned to become a lab technician, although she was squeamish at the sight of blood. When it became apparent that she will not overcome that, she accepted counseling and pursued a career in Social Work. In the early 1960’s, she held several positions as family and children’s counselor, 1965-1974 she was employed at Edna Gladney Home in Ft. Worth. She enjoyed every aspect of the work, performed home studies on prospective adoptive families throughout Texas and Oklahoma. She placed infants into approved homes and supervised for the first 6 months. Later she provided counseling to birth parents seeking to plan for their unborn babies. From 1974 to 1985, she was employed as Executive Director for Home and Adoption Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico, supervised staff, community, United Way and lobbied for better adoption laws in Santa Fe and Washington DC. From 1986 to 1996, she was employed as Adult Probation Officer in Dallas County, supervised felons, endeavored to help them complete probation. She soon retired in 1997. As a young adult, she was an avid reader, loved movies, then became active with Community Theater, performing back stage duties. Barbara enjoyed gardening, gourmet cooking, family get togethers, especially in Walnut Grove.
She is preceded in death by her parents; John E. Daniels and Leloa C. Daniels, one brother; Ray Daniels, two Aunts; Rosie Robins, Claudia Adams, one uncle; Albia Barnes, one sister; Diane Daniels.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Greet Daniels.
Barbara will be missed by both family and friends.
