The family will receive guests on Monday, February 4, 2019 between 8am and 12pm in the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Funeral Services will follow at 2 pm in the funeral home's Chapel of Memories with Mike Kelly presiding. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arlene Gillis was born on November 23, 1929 in Quitaque, Texas to Opal and Guss Gillmore, the oldest of nine children. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1948 and married her high school sweetheart, Jerry G. Gillis, Sr., in 1950. Arlene worked in the River Road School cafeteria, at the flea market with her dad and in a machine shop where she welded and used other industrial machinery. She was truly a “Rosie the Riveter”.
After almost 63 years of marriage, Arlene’s husband passed away in 2012. Arlene was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Del Fowler and Betty Hadsell, and brothers Denny, Fred and Phillip Gillmore.
Arlene is survived by her son, Jerry G. Gillis, Jr. and wife Melody of Bushland and daughter Christie Harrison and husband Steve of Amarillo. Also, grandchildren Calli Ghassemi and husband Kevin of Fort Worth, Aaron Harrison and wife Callie and Abby Harrison of Houston. She is also survived by brothers Jim Gillmore of Borger and Rodney Gillmore of Claude and sister Debbie Mitchell of Amarillo.
