NATHAN L. WOODRUFF WWII / U.S.A.F. Veteran Nathan Leon Woodruff, 92, a Tennessee native and resident of Collegedale, Tennessee, and Altamonte Springs, Florida, died peacefully early Friday morning, May 1, 2015, at a hospital in Orlando, Florida. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a veteran of World War II and of the United States Air Force, completing 35 bombing missions with the other members of his crew in the European Theatre from July 7 to November 2, 1944. For many years he owned and operated a plumbing business in Union City, Tennessee, and later in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. He was the eldest son of the late Thomas and Lorene Woodruff of Dukedom, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jewell Kathryn Taylor Woodruff, a brother, Everett G. Woodruff, and a daughter, Mary Benson. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Benson and Judy Wilson of Altamonte Springs, Florida; son, Johnny Woodruff of Chattanooga, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2015, at Highland Memorial Gardens in Apopka, Florida, with arrangements by the Baldwin-Fairchild Semoran Funeral Home.
