Margaret Mary Simmermacher

She was born and raised in the Buffalo, NY area and graduated from Stella Niagara. She received a Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and was married to George Simmermacher in 1959.

As an Orlando area resident for nearly 50 years, she was a respected teacher, counselor for the State of Florida and an active member of St. Mary Magdalen parish and she enjoyed helping people in these roles. As a young woman she loved skiing and ice skating with her husband and brother in law in Upstate New York and Vermont.

She was a life-long learner who earned two Master's degrees throughout her life - a Masters in Counseling from UCF in the 80s, and a Masters in Theology not too long ago in the 2010s from St. Leo College. She loved sharing things that she learned along the way as little factoids during conversations with her family.

Peggy’s children remember the effort she put into delicious Sunday roast dinners and holiday celebrations as well as all of the Christmas Cookies, the recipes of which have been carried down and enjoyed by the younger generations.

She was a woman who was a bit ahead of her time. She balanced raising three kids, going to school, working and managing as best as she could the difficulties life throws at us.

We admired her for her thirst for learning, her mischievous nature, her love of music, and her fierce will and independent determination.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, George, as well as her Mother, Margaret Eltges and Father, Joseph Eltges. Peggy is survived by her sons Martin Simmermacher (Cisa Simmermacher), Michael Simmermacher and daughter Teresa Simmermacher (Paul Hodge). She is also survived by her three grandchildren Cecilia Castrillon, Catie Spitcaufsky and Tanner Simmermacher as well as her great grandchild Camila Castrillon.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 861 Maitland Ave, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, 3329 E Semoran Blvd, Apopka, FL 32703.
