Jo Ann (Veazey) Stuart 85, of Orlando, Florida passed away March 9, 2023, after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Jo was born in Orlando, Florida on December 24, 1937 to John Frank Veazey and Dora “Dody” Elizabeth Barker. Jo was the youngest of two children.
Jo graduated from William R. Boone High School in 1955. While attending high school, Jo performed in chorus and glee club. After graduation, she became a flight attendant and flight attendant supervisor for National Air Lines. She also represented the airline for two years on the National Airlines float in the Orange Bowl parade.
While assigned to Miami International Airport, Jo met her husband, Theodore “Ted” W. A. Stuart, the love who shared the skies, in 1964. They were married on June 11, 1965 at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. They have two sons, Craig Alton Stuart, born in 1967; and Jeb Barker Stuart, born in 1968.
As Ted was a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force, Jo was very active as a member and leader of the Officer Wives’ Club supporting airmen and local community support agencies. When Ted became vice commander and commander at the bases during later assignments, Jo served as a first lady hosting many generals and dignitaries. After returning to Orlando when Ted retired, Jo served as an executive assistant in Orange County Government.
During her life, Jo’s passions were family, music, and golf. Yearly trips to various military bases for the Military Women’s Tournament with Ted were special times. She enjoyed being tournament director and presiding over the women’s golf leagues at each Air Force base and both Rosemont and Dubsdread golf courses in Orlando. Jo loved music as well. Not only was she an accomplished singer, she also was a pianist.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Clyde Arthur Chapman, and her brother Robert “Bob” Kenneth Veazey.
Jo is survived by her children, Craig (Sherrie), and Jeb, and sister-in-law Jan T. Veazey. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Kelley Lyle, Brittany Crump (Justin), Courtney Morgan (Brennan), Megan Gunn (Brandon), Casey Stuart (Faith), and Allyson Stuart. Jo also has 8 great-grandchildren.
