William George Thompson born on February 17,1920 in Pawtucket, R.I., Son of William Arthur Thompson of Constantinople, Turkey and Ethelinda Pickering Thompson of Preston, England. Graduated from Pawtucket High School in 1939 and entered the U. S. Navy in 1942. Served abroad the USS Enright a destroyer- escort in the North Atlantic where he was injured during a convoy. After his discharge he attended Notre Dame University, graduating Cummalude in Electrical Engineering. July 6, 1946 he married Eleanor Vogel and they had a daughter and four sons. He worked for Nasa Goddard Space Center for 26 years. He was a member of Saint Louis Church, The Capital Harmonica club, The American Legion, and the SPAH International. He passed away on January 1,2012 at Alexandria Hospital. He is survived by his widow and four sons, two daughter-in-laws , 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
