BG U.S. ARMY (Ret.)
Passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Eggleston, his children, grandchildren, and numerous other relatives. BG Eggleston retired from the Army after 30 years of service. He served in Vietnam and Korea, earning the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, the defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. His command and staff positions included Chief of Staff, First U.S. Army, Commander Division Artillery and later, Chief of Staff with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas, member of the Nuclear Contingency Branch, Operations Directorate, J3 of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Commanding General of VII Corps Artillery in Europe. The family will receive visitors at the Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 1 to 4 p.m. Funeral service and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Tuesday, January 25, 2011.
