Gary Norman McLeod, born September 17, 1942, in Carberry, Manitoba, passed away, calm and peaceful, surrounded by loved ones in Langley, British Columbia on September 19, 2024. He is pre-deceased by his wife Elaine (nee Swanson) and brother Bruce Oke. Gary is lovingly remembered by his wife Judi, sons Paul and Christopher, and his three grandchildren Mathew, Rachel, and Elisabeth.
Gary lived life with passion and curiosity, motivated by his Christian faith and great love for people. He was an aviator, carpenter, teacher, pastor, and a registered clinical counsellor and notably was the first pastor of the Whistler Community Church in the 1970s, the director of Trinity Western University Aviation Program in the 1980s and project manager for the building of the Chemainus Theatre in the early 1990s. Subsequently, he and Elaine ran a counselling clinic in the North Cowichan and Nanaimo regions that supported and helped many. Great adventures were also had in the Southern Gulf Islands on their 26-foot sailboat Chivas Regal. Retirement led back to Langley where Gary was a grandpa extraordinaire being involved in Pooh-bear dates, engine tinkering and soccer practices, ballet recitals, and Disneyland trips among many escapades. Upon Elaine’s passing Gary married Judi with whom he found love and happiness and who was devoted to him.
The family has great appreciation for staff at Jackman Manor for their professionalism and care and compassion shown to Gary in his last year. Donations in Gary’s memory can be made to Jackman Manor at www.jackmanmanor.com/donations
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm Saturday October 19th at South Langley Church, 20098 22Ave, Langley.
