Leonard J. Rice, 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at The Villages of Orleans. He was born in Albion the son of Stanley and Anna (Jozwiak) Rice and has been a lifetime resident of the area. Len was an n Albion High School Graduate and served in the US Army from 1942-1945. He started out work as a village Police Officer, served the village of Albion as Trustee, Mayor and also Clerk. Lastly he was employed by Albion School District as the Business Manager before retiring. His memberships were numerous including, Past President of Albion Rotary Club, Former member of American Legion Post 35, VFW Post 4635, and Albion Hook & Ladder Company. Leonard was a lifetime member of St. Mary’ Athletic Club, and the former St. Mary’s Asssumption Church where he played the Organ. Currently he attended to Holy Family Parish Church.
He was predeceased by His wife Florence and son Denis. He is survived by Children, Michael (Jill) Rice of West Virginia, Barbara (James) Cangelosi of Utah, David (Barbara) Rice of Maryland, Christopher (Linda) Rice of Albion; 9 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; sister, Mary Coveney of Albion; Many Nieces, Nephews and friends.
Per Leonard’s wishes there will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 10:00am at Holy Family Parish Church. Rev. Richard Csizmar will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans.
