Rebecca accepted Christ as a young girl. She graduated from Washington Gardner High School in Albion, where she lived until moving to Detroit.
Rebecca married James Earl Dickerson in 1971 and three beautiful children were born to this union - James, Jason, and Joi. More than anything else, she loved being a mother and a grandmother. She was fiercely protective of her three children, and lovingly raised her grandsons, Albert and Lawrence Hill.
Referred to by many as “Grandma” or “Pie”, Rebecca was a dear friend and an inspiration to so many. All who knew her were witnesses to her unshakeable faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Rebecca enjoyed trips to the casino, shopping online, cooking, watching HGTV, and playing with Faith, the family dog. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her loving family.
Rebecca had careers at both Chrysler and the United States Postal Service, where she met her longtime companion Lloyd Yancy in 1989. Rebecca was a naturally caring person, easily making friends with coworkers and neighbors during this time.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Willie Dent, her sister Elaine Howard Brown, and James Earl Dickerson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children James Lawrence Dickerson, Jason Ladell Dickerson, and Joi Danielle Dickerson, two grandsons Albert Lee Hill and Lawrence Andrew Hill, granddaughter Atiya Lashae James, three brothers Dennis Howard, Gary “Doc” Howard, and Andrew Fowler, longtime partner Lloyd Yancy, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, adopted family members, and friends.
Rebecca Dickerson trusted God and prepared well for her eternity. With confidence in God’s love, we commend her to His care and look forward to our glorious reunion.
