Diane Marie King

Diane King (nee Booker) age 68 of Albion passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 in Remus, Michigan. She was born in Windsor, Canada on June 2, 1950 the daughter of Marie and Len Booker. She is survived by her husband, John, children: Sarah (Dave) Fink-King, Katie King, Betsy (Jeremy) Steinert, Sam Miller; She was a Beloved Grammie and Deedee to Evan McKensie, Sammie Fink-King, Clinton and Ellie Steinert. She also leaves siblings: Steve (Gail) Booker, Judy (Chris) Adelman and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins she adored.

Diane and her parents immigrated to the United States when she was a toddler. She became a US citizen at age 16.

Diane was a graduate of St. Clair High School and Ferris State University dental assisting program. Later, she went on to earn her Bachelors degree from Spring Arbor University and a Masters degree from Western Michigan University.

John and Diane met at Ferris and lived and vacationed in several special places, especially Cedarville, Michigan and the cabin in Big Rapids.

Diane worked in the dental field for over 15 years and then became the Administrator at the Jackson Friendly Home assisted living facility.

Outside of work, Diane was an avid crafter and lover of music and the arts. She was also active with the New England Historic and Genealogical Society. She gave birth to three daughters who were her pride and joy and “adopted” a son in 2000. Diane took many young people under her wing including foreign exchange students and local kids who considered her a second mother.

Diane was a Girl Scout troop leader, a Destination Imagination and Odyssey of the Mind coach, a member of the Jackson BPW, and volunteer for all the music and theatre events her family was involved in.

She loved being a grandma more than anything. After retirement, she became passionate about genealogy, tracing family members back as far as the 1600s.

She and her husband John lived in Albion for over 30 years and were married for 48 years. She was known as “Mama King” by countless kids and friends of her children.

She is preceded in death by her parents Marie and Len Booker, fathers- and mother-in-law Yukon Jack King, Bryce and Helen Parker.

A Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 with visitation beginning at 11:30 AM until the time of service at 1 PM at St. James Episcopal Church, 119 W. Erie Street, Albion with Rev. Mother Darlene Kuhn officiating. The family is being served by J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, Albion.
