Johnie Mae Barham Brown, 94 very blessed years, went home to be with the Lord on March 10, 2016. Johnie was born in Henderson, Tennessee on April 9, 1921 to the late Gavin and Helen Wade. She was married to Lendon Barham, from their union three daughters were born, Linda, Rita and Drexa.
Johnie briefly attended Tennessee A&I College, but her true passion was in the field of beauty. She studied at the Mademoiselle Beauty School. In 1954 she opened her first salon. Over the years she trained and mentored many. She was and will continue to be recognized as a pioneer and legend in the field of Cosmetology. Her motto was, “If your hair isn’t becoming to you, you should be coming to Johnie’s.” As a business woman she also had a modeling school and the French Closet Boutique. Johnie served as a mentor to many in the community and was the owner of Johnie’s Beauty Palace.

Johnie is preceded in death by her parents, Gavin and Helen Wade; brothers, Robert and Cleveland Wade, sisters, Emily Blair and Inetha Hodges. She is survived by daughters, Linda Guess of Honolulu, Hawaii; Rita Tatum and Drexa Pearson, of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Mozell Cawthon and Jerene Hines of Detroit, Michigan; brothers Cecil Wade of Oakland, California and Sylvester Wade of Seattle, Washington; Howard Wade of Texas; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Loving Sister, Aunt, and friend to many.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 17 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with the Funeral Service at 12:00 PM in the Catavolos Funeral Home 3653 W Market St Fairlawn, OH. Inturment in Rose Hill Burial Park.
