Edwin P. Schrank, 95 , died peacefully on December 9, 2021 . Ed was born on July 6, 1926 , in Akron Ohio , and was the oldest of 4 brothers and a sister . Ed was preceded in death by his parents , Harry P. and Julia Kathryn Schrank , step mother Rachel Williams Schrank, first wife Joan Andrews Schrank , second wife Barbara Schrank , infant son Edwin P. Schrank, Jr. , brother Frederick John Schrank , sister Katherine Winther , and granddaughter Jennifer Hendryx . Ed is survived by his brothers Joel Schrank of Jacksonville , Florida and HP Schrank Jr. of Raleigh, N.C. , children Laura Harkey ( William) of Florida , James A . Schrank ( Patricia ) of Akron , and Kathryn Antalvari ( Jon ) of Akron , as well as 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren .
Ed graduated from Stow High School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Navy in their V12 program . He graduated from Cornell University in 1947 with BS in Mechanical Engineering . After graduation Ed spent a long and successful professional career with Seiberling Rubber Company ( 1947 – 1964 ) , rising from Staff Engineer initially to Vice President - Production , followed by his career with McNeil Corporation , Akron Division , ( 1964 – 1981 ) starting as sales manager and rising to and retiring from as Company President .
Ed spent many years on the Corporate Boards of McNeil Corp ( 1969 – 1986 ) , Myers Industries ( 1971 – 2002 ) , Akron Equipment ( 1977 – 1988 ) and Duracote Corp . ( 1978 – 1985 )
As for Community involvement , Ed was very active serving the Boy Scouts of America ( 1969-1988 ) receiving the BSA Silver Beaver award in 1972 , St. Thomas Hospital Medical Center (1969 – 1981 ) , American Red Cross ( 1976 – 1995 ) , United Way of Summit County ( 1975 – 1991 ) receiving Distinguished Service Awards in 1982 and 1986 , Akron Community Foundation ( 1991 – 2000 ) , Area Agency on Aging ( 1984 – 1997 ) , Western Reserve Historical Society (1995 – 1999 ) , and Hale Farm and Village ( 1991 – 2003 )
Ed was enshrined into the Ohio Senior Citizen Hall of Fame in 2003 , in honor of his philanthropic efforts .
In addition to Ed’s vast Industrial and Community activities , he spent over 30 years at his beloved Westwood Farm , in Bath Township, with his family , raising horses, chickens , cats and dogs , as well as gardens and woodlot improvements . This farm remains in the family to this day , 65 years and counting .
