Wanda was born on June 2, 1941 in Abilene to the late Louis January and Elizabeth Norene (Straley) Adkisson. She grew up in a large family where she learned many values she carried throughout her life such as perseverance, hard work, honesty and sticking together as a family. She attended Wylie High School where she stood out as a basketball player. She entered the workforce early and eventually retired from C.G. Conn, Lockheed Martin, and finally the Abilene State School. Wanda loved to dance and always enjoyed having a good time. She took pride in keeping a manicured yard (that she proudly mowed up until a few weeks ago) and entertaining on her beloved patio. She always enjoyed hunting and fishing. Wanda was always upfront and honest and you knew where you stood with her. Her passing brings to a close beautiful and fun memories with her son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family, which will remain through the precious memories created.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; all her siblings, Herman D. Adkisson, Ottis E. Adkisson, Juanita Murray, Junior F. Adkisson, Geneva M. Holt, Truly C. Adkisson, and N. Carolyn Abbot; and a nephew who was more like a brother, Truman Adkisson.
She is survived by her devoted son, Danny G. English and his wife, Melissa; two granddaughters, Staci Erwin and her husband Cody, and Renna English; 4 great-grandchildren, Brazos, Ashton, Bailey Jo, and Bailey Rae. She was the beloved, “Aunt June” to numerous nieces, and nephews.
