Ronnie Lee Monsey

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Hawley with Reverend Keith Clifton officiating. Burial will follow in Hawley Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Monsey, Kevin Monsey, Jason Monsey, John Monsey, Elwin Monsey, Jr., and Michael Monsey. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ronnie was born March 15, 1942 to Verdis (Haile) and Leslie B. Monsey in Brownwood, Texas. He married Nina Steward on May 29, 1965 in Lubbock, Texas. Ronnie was a long time employee of Bearing Supply Company in Abilene, Texas and retired in 2008. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hawley, Texas. Ronnie was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved music and singing, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven Travis Monsey, a granddaughter, Whitley Nicole Walker and two brothers, Robert and Tommy Monsey.

Survivors include his wife Nina, three daughters, Rhonda Henderson and husband, Richard, of Chandler, Texas, Sharron Walker and husband, Bobby, of Hawley, and Stephanie Carlton and husband, Randall, of Abilene, a good friend and considered an adoptive son, Richard Howeth and wife, Tina, of Hawley. He had six brothers, L.B. Monsey and wife, Betty, Ricky Monsey and wife, Vanita, all of Baird, Texas, Kenneth, James and David Monsey, all of Lubbock, Texas, and Elwin Monsey of Eula, Texas. All together he had eight grandchildren, Rodney, Kristan, Keri, Kaci, Gage, Hunter, Robert, and Stephanie, and one great-grandchild.

The family would like to express special thanks to Hendrick Hospice, Dr. Heaven, and Dr. Pate for their outstanding care of Ronnie.
