Ray M. Lawson, 88, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at a local nursing center. Funeral services will be 1:00p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2011, at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St., Abilene, TX. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Ray was born on March 31, 1923 in McKinney, TX to Jessie and Belva (Kuykendall) Lawson.
He was self-employed as the owner of Jay and Ray Cleaners and retired in 1985 after 33 years. Ray was a member of Sundowners Good Sam Travel Club and of Key City Channel Masters Radio Club. He was also a very devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
An avid fisherman, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ray will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leta Lawson in April of 2011, and an infant son, Marvin Lawson.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Stevens and husband Jerry of Lawn, TX and Martha Taylor and husband, Jack of Abilene; grandchildren, Kimberly Harrison and husband Ken of Abilene , Leiann Dickey of Abilene , Keri Taylor of Dallas and Darin Taylor of Oceanside, CA; great-grandchildren, William Dickey, Michael Dickey, and Shelby Harrison all of Abilene.
