Mrs. Nolan (Mary) Butler, 89, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at a nursing home in San Angelo. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith with Rev. Marlin Morrow, Rev. Bill Ballou, and Rev. Brad Winchester officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5p.m. to 7p.m., Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mary was born on September 24, 1922 to Robert and Mimmie (Evans) Sloan in San Saba County, TX. She was a graduate of Rogers High School and married Nolan Butler on May 25, 1940 in Rogers, TX. Mr. Butler passed away in 2003. She was formerly active in the insurance business with her late husband and also active with him in ranching and pecan growing in Comanche County.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church for 47 years, Mary participated in many clubs and classes. She was in Garden Gate Garden Club, Sarah Sunday School Class, LLL Club, and the senior adult choir. Mary also taught in the primary Sunday School Dept. for 21 years prior to coming to Abilene.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two sisters; four brothers; an infant son, Gary Floyd Butler; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Stewart Butler.
Survivors include her son, N. Wayne Butler of Brownwood; her daughter, Betty Younts and husband C.W. "Dub" of San Angelo; four grandchildren, Richard W. Butler of Burleson, TX, Kenneth A. Butler of Temple, TX, Chris W. Younts and wife, Tara of San Angelo, TX and Craig A. Younts and wife, Lisa of San Angelo, TX; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
