Marilyn married the love of her life, Billy Ray Morgan, on April 22, 1956. Together, they were loving parents to three children – Robert C. Morgan (Buddy), Pamela P. Hood (Pam), and Billy L. Morgan. After being married several years, they were gifted another child, Marilyn’s sister, Elizabeth A. Corley Hargrove (Liz), whom they raised as their own daughter.
A loving mother and dedicated homemaker, Marilyn spent her years ensuring her children, grandchildren, and husband were always cared for, particularly by way of making sure they were always fed the best meals her hands could prepare. Everyone who knew her, knew that she loved Jesus, sports, and gambling, especially going to the casino with her husband and her daughter, Pam.
In her children’s younger years, she helped create a life for them in the various places her husband’s Air Force career took them, including their home state of Louisiana, France, and eventually their place of retirement in Tye, Texas, where they spent the remainder of their years together making memories with family and life-long friends until Bill’s passing in March 2020.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Morgan, her son, Billy Larkin Morgan, and her great-grandson, RC Morgan Minze.
She is survived by her children, Liz Hargrove and her husband Rick; son, Buddy Morgan and his wife Sherri; and daughter, Pam Hood and her husband Tim.
Marilyn is also survived by her grandchildren Chris Breeden and his wife Amber; Laci White; Stephanie Byram and her husband Matt; Tanner Morgan; Bridget Morgan; Caden Morgan; Lane Watts and her husband Rusty; Hollye Stallings and her husband Derek; Hayle Cochran her husband Russell; and Hope Hargrove. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Jax, Everly, Montana, and Savannah Breeden; Jayde and Macin Byrum; Ace Maclane Minze and Charlotte Rae Watts; and Karlee, Rylan, and Wyatt Cochran. Marilyn is also survived by her dear friends, Kenny and Janet Law, who have always been there for her and her family.
Visitation for Marilyn will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277, Abilene, TX. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Elliott-Hamil as well, followed by her interment at Tye Cemetery on Morgan Street in Tye, TX.
Marilyn was a loving wife to her amazing husband and a dedicated mother to the children of whom she was so proud. She was Mama to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who loved her, whom in return she adored. Though we feel lost without her, the love she bestowed upon us will forever remain in our hearts, and we are grateful for the peace she now knows.
“Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forget life, to be at peace.” – Oscar Wilde
