On July 12, and after 25 years of separation, Mom finally made the journey to join our Dad, Marty in Heaven. Laverne was born on November 9, 1934 in Abilene, Texas to Cleta Edwards Havins and James C. (Kirk) Edwards. She spent most of her years in Abilene with a couple of brief moves while Dad was serving in the Navy.
Her life on Earth was celebrated by many and most would remember her as the face of the Four Seasons Car Wash where she spent over 25 years making sure the cars of Abilene were the cleanest in the Big Country. You could bet that if she didn’t know your name, she knew your license plate and if you serve(d) in the Armed Forces or were wearing your fatigues, she couldn’t wait to walk up and give you a hug.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Sabra Holmes, Debbie and Russell English, Marta and Garrett Mitchell, Tamra English and Laura Crumley, and Billy Wilkinson and John Kerrigan. She beamed about her grandchildren and their spouses, Delena Holmes, Brenna and Alex Nava, Lindsey and Ben Craycraft, Cody English, Boone Mitchell, and Hayden Wilkinson-Kerrigan. And the gifts kept on giving with her great-grandchildren, Brayden Holmes, Isabella Nava, Cydney Nava, Calvin Craycraft, and Evelyn Craycraft. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Nelson and Faye Edwards and Peggy and Willard Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2012, at Our Savior Lutheran Church where she was a member for over 50 years. Our Savior is located at 4933 South 7th Street, Abilene, Texas 79605. Burial will follow in Abilene City Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2012, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 524 Hickory, Abilene, Texas.
