Graveside services will be at 11 AM on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Buffalo Gap Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Reid officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Elliott Hamil Funeral Home.
Jerry was born on May 15, 1940 in Loraine, Texas to Clifton Gage and Rilla (Thompson) Gage. He met the love of his life, Shirlene, when he was 17 and she was 14. They married on August 22, 1959, and he was a loving and devoted husband during the 59 years they shared together in love, laughter and life. He greatly mourned her when she passed two years ago, and felt a great heartfelt loss.
While a loving father, husband, and grandfather, he was also a hard worker. He worked for many years with his father at their painting company, Gage Painting Company. He began selling insurance in January of 1961 and did so for 59 years, and owned the first Olympic gym in Abilene, a passion he developed when he was a powerlifter in his younger days.
Jerry loved to have fun, was a prankster and a master ghost-story teller. A very simple man, he loved his home in the country, shooting guns, and loved to travel near and far with his wife before she passed.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirlene, and brother Dalton Gage.
Survivors include his son, Corey Gage and wife Angie; daughter, Wendy Rostagno and husband Joe; six grandchildren, Cole, Ashley, Brittany, Justin, Sarah and Emily; six great-grandchildren, Austin, MacKenzie, Everly, Ivy, Reece and Rocco; and several close friends.
