George Edward Sellers

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Midway Cemetery in Hodges with his grandson officiating.

George, along with his 7 older siblings was born in Abilene and raised in the Delk Community on his family’s farm. He graduated from Hawley High School in 1965. Shortly after, he had to leave the tractor and farm behind to join the United States Navy where he became and served as the head electrician aboard the USS Lexington. Shortly after his service, he and a partner opened and operated a small electrical company in New Orleans. After some years passed he decided he wanted to return home, get back on that tractor and work the land that he loved, raising cattle, coupled with a career with Exxonmobil. He became a lead man in the company and was appointed head project manager of some of Exxon’s largest producing oil wells in places such as, Africa, Indonesia, France, the Gulf of Mexico, and many other places around the world. After his retirement from Exxon, he started Coyote Roustabout, a small oilfield service at his home in Hodges. He, his wife and grandson operated it every day until the day he passed.

Papa was a fighter, from being saved from a house fire as an infant, to being severely burned and in a coma from an oilfield explosion, to a near death cancer experience in his kidney and lungs, to battling for a better quality of life with his heart. His faith in God and being the Great man that he was is why God kept him going. He was the best man in everyone's life that knew him. He loved so deeply and so pure.

Papa, was first and foremost a man of God, A loving and caring Husband to his wife Gail Cooley- Sellers, an incredible father to all he considered his children. He was the most selfless, kind, and fair man to all. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, home and land improvements, farming and running equipment, anything creative and challenging. He was a jack of all trades, He loved to laugh, and sit on the porch with his family talking about work, memories, the future, and God.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Virginia Hollis, Jimmy Dale Sellers, Raymond Sellers, Johnnie Maud, and Leander Sellers

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gail Sellers; children, Stuart Sellers, Kayla Cooley, Karla Lustig, and Austin Cooley Sellers; grandchildren, Collins Womack, Mason Lustig, Logan Lustig, Trinity Rister, Kailyn Rister; siblings, Billie Sutton, and Doc Sellers; A best friend and a Brother Dave McKee; and numerous other relatives and family.
