Florence Pauline Henderson

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 1st, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, from 5-7:00 PM. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 2nd also at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Hwy. 277 S., conducted by Bro. Larry Fitzgerald from Woodlawn Church of Christ. Graveside services will be held on March 4th at 10:00 AM at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston.

One of seven siblings, she was born to the late Charlie and Lillian Stanford in McGehee, AR. Florence and Maurice “Kelley” Henderson, were wed in 1952, began family life in Arkansas, and moved to the Houston area in 1956 when Kelly began his career as a petroleum inspector. This career would see the family move to Abilene, abroad to Sicily, and back to the Houston area. Upon the passing of Kelley in 1991, Flo returned to Abilene.

An avid seamstress and needle worker, she produced countless doll clothes, afghans, doilies, tablecloths, and layettes for friends and family, as well as booties and caps for premature infants at local hospitals. She was also the, “cat lady”, caring for neighborhood strays in addition to her indoor feline companions.

She is also preceded in death by brothers, Glen, Carol, Owen, and Roy Stanford; and sister, Doris Traylor. She is survived by brother, Paul(Betty) Stanford of Bossier City, LA; her daughter, Paula(Jim) Rhea of Irving, TX; and sons, Charles (Jean) Henderson of Hot Springs, AR; and John Henderson of Abilene, TX.
