Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at King Solomon Baptist Church, Judge Ely and Minda Lane, Abilene, with Pastor Houston McClendon officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene.
Emma was born March 1, 1929 to Thomas James Sidberry and Lena Bell Shepherd Sidberry in Maysville, North Carolina. They moved to Anson, Texas where Emma graduated from Abilene High School. She married Vernon Augustus Moore on April 26, 1946 in Anson, Texas. Emma and Vernon moved to North Carolina where they lived for ten years. In 1955, they moved back to Anson, Texas where they lived until moving to Abilene in 1970. Emma was employed by the Abilene Independent School District as a bus driver for approximately ten years. She worked as a volunteer at the Abilene State Supported Living Center (was Abilene State School) as a Foster Grandparent. Emma also volunteered at the G.V. Daniels Recreation Center in Abilene for a number of years. She was a member of the King Solomon Baptist Church where she was an usher throughout her life. Emma was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star --- Queen Ester Chapter 917.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Augustus Moore; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include her son, Reginald Moore of Abilene; her sister, Gloria Roberts of New Bern, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Michael Sidberry of Flower Mound, Texas; one Godchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
