Ella was born to Adolfo Sumaya Gonzales and Maria Vasquez-De Los Santos, in York Town, Texas, on December 1, 1926. She spent most of her life in Abilene, Texas where she met the love of her life Morris Hernandez Sr. Ella and Morris were married on October 25, 1949. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of The St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She was a cursillista and served as a Guadalupana where she devoted her time and service to the church and community. Ella knew there was nothing stronger than the power of prayer, every day she prayed for and over her loved ones. Ella loved reading her bible and shared that love with her grandkids. She loved spending time reading over the Psalms, which she knew by memory. Her Rosaries were well loved and worn from daily prayers. Ella enjoyed family dinners where everyone would come together and share in fellowship, food, and traditions. She shared stories of her childhood growing up in York Town, Texas during the depressions. Ella shared stories of hard work and overcoming barriers in her life. Ella instilled a hard work ethic in her children and grandchildren. She has a church family that will miss her dearly.
Ella is preceded in death by husband, Morris Hernandez Sr; daughters, Cherry Ann Moreno, and Olga Vallarino; brother, Marciano Gonzales; sister, Mary Gonzales, Oscar Alvaldo Gonzalez, and Mary Ellen Alvaldo Gonzalez Galvan.
She is survived by daughter Cecelia Lopez and husband Roel; son Morris Hernandez Jr, and wife Martha, son Terry Hernandez, sister's Teresa Gonzales Ying, Miranda Ornelas, Idolionea Gonzalez Galvan, Juanita Gonzalez, and brother Cheto Anisaeto-Alvaldo Gonzalez. Ella and Morris built a beautiful legacy of 22 Grandkids, 58 Great Grandkids, and 29 great-great grandkids: numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The visitation is Thursday September 28, 2023, at 6:00 PM followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith. The Celebration of Life Mass will be held Friday September 29, 2023, at 10: 30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi. Catholic Church; the burial at Elmwood Memorial Park to follow.
