Ret. Msgt. David F. Barrett, Sr., aka “Yankee” by his friends, and “Pop” by his family, 84, passed away peacefully at his son’s home on January 26, 2023. David was born in New York City, NY on April 11, 1938. He grew up in a northern township just outside of Philadelphia, PA and attended Springfield Township High School in Pennsylvania. David proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp and the United States Air Force from 1956 until retirement in Homestead, Florida during the summer of 1980. He met Millicent Snell in 1960 and married shortly after. Dave and Millicent raised 4 children and made many memories over the years. They loved to dance, go bowling and have parties at their house with their friends.
Dave was proud to be a Mason and was a member of the Baird Lodge #522. He enjoyed attending NASCAR races - not to actually watch the race, but to be around his buddies and cook food, drink beer and enjoy the camaraderie of his life-long friends. He was a very strong willed man with a personality that resonated within his circle of many friends that he also considered his family. Pop definitely made a mark on this Earth and will always be remembered as being a tough and crusty ole fart. He lived by the U.S. Marine motto, Semper Fi!
Pop is preceded in death by his parents; his brother; the mother of his children, Millicent Barrett; and a grandson, Brenden Barrett. Survivors include his children, Donna Barrett, Gordon Barrett, Paula Barrett, David Barrett, Jr. and wife, Stacy, and Richard Osiecki; grandchildren, Alexandra Martinez, Donovan Verastegui, Cameron Penn, Riley Barrett, Justin Wallace, Bryan Foster Barrett and fiancé, Misty Callaway, Adrian Barrett and husband, Mason, and Kayla Krackenfels, as well as 5 additional grandchildren; great-grandchildren, AnaCelia Lara, Jayden Martinez, and Zenny Zee Garner, as well as 19 additional great-grandchildren; and many, many close friends also considered “brothers”.
