Charles F. O’Neal passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at a local medical center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 23, 2012, in Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 Westlake Road in Abilene, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Tom Thomas will officiate.
Charles was born May 29, 1926 in Temple, Texas to C. F. and Mary Lou O’Neal. He married Marva Joy Conatser in 1948. Charles served on the U.S.S. Intrepid as an Aviation Ordinance’s Mate 3c, in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Amoco Oil Company in the early 1980s. He was an avid model train collector, and he loved talking with anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed.
Preceding him in death are the love of his life, Joy; a daughter, Darian LaJune; and a son, Craig Foster O’Neal. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Thomas and husband Tom of Abilene; a son, Kelly O’Neal of Abilene; grandchildren, Shannon Bryan and husband Tony, Staci Thomas, Ian O’Neal and wife Kari, and Michael Thomas; great-grandchildren, Courtney Butler and husband Greg, Tanner and Conner O’Neal; and a great-great-granddaughter, Dannie Butler.
