Betty Lou Vaughn, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m., Friday, December 29, 2017 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South with burial following at 12:00p.m., Friday in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. at the funeral home.
Betty Lou was born in Vinson, OK on May 6, 1938 to the late Oscar and Eva Irene Roach Keesee. She attended public schools in Oklahoma and very proudly obtained her GED in 1972. Betty Lou married the love of her life, Tommy Vaughn on December 8, 1960 in Amarillo, TX. They moved to the Abilene area in 1980 and Betty Lou worked with Tommy in their Insurance business until they both retired in 1992. Tommy and Betty Lou then opened an Antique Store on Butternut St. called First and Second Time Around until closing it in 2000.
Betty Lou was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all that loved her.
Betty Lou is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Tommy Vaughn of the home; her son, Tommy Vaughn and wife, Bridget of Abilene; her daughter, Debbie Hadley and husband, David of Haslet, TX; six grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty Lou’s name may be made to the SPCA or Meals On Wheels.
