Addie was born at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas to William David and Vera Mae Wilson. She was the second born of four children, and they lived in Abilene, Texas. She attended Wylie Schools, was on the basketball team, a cheerleader, and The Class Favorite. She received her high school diploma from Wylie High School in 1960, and later attended and completed Draughon’s Business School of Abilene.
Addie married Don Neal, whom she met in downtown Abilene at the Paramount Theater. Don was a student at Hardin Simmons University and was on the football team. Addie was working for The Windsor Hotel downtown as a receptionist and menu typist. The building still stands today and was recently shared with her via video call to show her the marvelous transformation. Don and Addie were both graduates of Wylie High School. Don graduated in 1954, Addie in 1960.They married in December 1961 at South Side Baptist Church in Abilene. The couple moved to the Dallas area for a few years for Don’s employment but returned to Abilene after the birth of their two daughters Janae and Sherri. The couple built a home in the Wylie Community where the girls attended school and graduated from Wylie High. The family was actively involved at Wylie Baptist Church. In the fall of 1982, Don suddenly passed away, profoundly changing their lives.
After Don’s passing, Addie moved into town and continued to work at AISD where she remained for over 30 years. She joined Pioneer Drive Baptist Church (PDBC) and became an active member of Sunday School, Church, and the single adult program led by Pete Knight, where she met Walt Creason. In June of 1988, Walt and Addie were wed. They had a special love and special relationship. They enjoyed getting together with friends, family, and attending PDBC activities. They also loved to travel. Some of their memorable trips included Alaska with Addie’s brothers, sisters, and spouses, and an unforgettable trip to Paris, Rome, Venice, and Italy in 2015 with their daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, who studied abroad in Italy. Walt was completely devoted to Addie, and they treasured family time with both daughters, the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In the fall of 2018, Addie suffered a massive stroke, leaving her with multiple deficits and disabilities. The family were prayerful and devoted to be with her daily. Walt stayed by her side and was devoutly committed to her care. In addition to Walt’s love and care, Addie was especially looked after and protected by her sister, Mary Cheek, and daughters Janae and Sherri. In the fall of 2021, Walt fell ill with COVID-19 and fought fiercely, but lost his battle with the disease. Addie always remained gracious and strong throughout many of life’s rises and falls.
Addie was preceded in death by her first husband Don Neal; her second husband Walt Creason; her daughter Darla Janae (Neal) Franklin; her brothers Dub Wilson, Don Wilson and Donald Lee Wilson; father William David Wilson and her mother Vera Mae Wilson.
