Ted was born in Drake, Saskatchewan on August 2, 1923. After having served the Lord most of his life, he now lives forever with the Lord Jesus, having passed into His presence on May 11th, 2016. Ted is forever loved by his children, Joanne (& Dave) and Philip (& Eileen), his five grandchildren, & his 14 great-grandchildren.
After being saved through a gospel radio program at the age of 16, Ted's every day was focused on Jesus. He spent his childhood in Saskatchewan and briefly in Manitoba, and at the age of 17 he moved to Niagara to work in a factory. It was here he felt the call of the Lord to serve Him, leading him to Prairie Bible Institute (PBI). With one year at PBI, he entered the Canadian army where he served in a Chilliwack military hospital and played piano for a gospel male quartet on Sundays. In 1945 after WWII, he returned to PBI and graduated in 1948. In 1949, Ted sailed to Brazil as a missionary with the mission CrossWorld, formerly Unevangelized Fields Mission. He met and married fellow missionary Janet Mydske and with her served in Brazil for 40 years, and they have two children, Joanne and Phil. They began the Amazon Bible Institute, which today is a seminary under Brazilian leadership, and they were then elected to be field leaders of CrossWorld and moved to Belem. After 12 years, they moved to Sao Luis and Ted built a recording studio to continue doing programs for Transworld Radio, which covered all of Brazil. They later moved to Sao Paulo and continued the work there as well as Ted being the associate pastor of a Brazilian church.
On retiring in 1988 in Canada, Ted ministered in churches and to the local Portuguese immigrant fruit farmers of the South Okanagan in central British Columbia. For these they had a weekly Portuguese gospel radio program, which Ted recorded in his home studio and which were aired on the local radio station in Osoyoos. His salvation through a radio program came full circle through his life as he ministered to others in the same way. In 1997 they moved to Abbotsford to be closer to their children, joined Immanuel Fellowship Church and led home Bible study groups for several years. In August of 2013 after 63 years of marriage, Ted’s beloved Janet went to be with the Lord.
He was devoted to his family, a prayer warrior, encourager, teacher, pastor, author, musician, and servant to Jesus and everyone in his life. "Great is Thy Faithfulness" is the story of Ted's life, and it is with this same heartfelt praise that we remember and celebrate Ted’s incredible, inspiring life. His legacy will always continue in the hearts of those who knew him and were touched by his love.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 29 at Immanuel Fellowship Baptist Church, 2950 Blue Jay Street, Abbotsford.
Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Abbotsford, BC.
