John Thomas Cook was born on November 1, 1930 in VGH, the second of two children, to Jim and Agnes Cook. They lived in Burnaby until Jack was nine when they moved near Port Moody. Jack went to school to become a teacher and then taught elementary school in Powell River, Courtney, and Grand Forks where he met Michiko (Mit) Imayoshi (also a teacher), who would become his wife of 67 years.
Jack and Mit moved to Abbotsford in 1957 where Jack taught shop courses for 25 years at Abbotsford Senior. After retiring in 1981, Jack joined colleagues, Jeff Lord and Gordon Reimer, in a do it yourself woodworking shop. After that he enjoyed working with Dan Fullerton in his stair railing business. Jack loved traveling with Mit, but he also kept busy helping his children add on to, or build their homes. Jack was very happy to volunteer his time for others and gave generously to charities.
He will be missed by Mit, his son Dan (Cathy) Cook and their boys: Mitchell, Travis, Preston and Fraser and his daughter Irene (Jim) Heinrichs and their children: Dan (Nyomi) Heinrichs, Emily (Reid) Spletzer (daughter Kinsley), Molly (Jake) Hall (daughter Kennedy), and dear friend Dan Fullerton.
There will be a service at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at The Gathering Place (Bakerview Church), 2285 Clearbrook Rd., Abbotsford, BC.
Jack had a huge heart for charity and the family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Cares Counselling Society, Hope International, or Salvation Army.
