Shirley Helen Simon

Shirley H. Simon of Yorba Linda passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2022. Shirley was born on August 23, 1932 in Mellen, Wisconsin. Shirley spent her youth through high school years in Bemidji, Minnesota. On December 31, 1955, she married Larry L. Simon and moved to Southern California where she lived the rest of life in the cities of Long Beach, Cypress, Murrieta, Placentia and Yorba Linda.Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Shirley was a smart, witty, spiritual, caring, and happy person. Everyone who met Shirley fell in love with her as she generously shared her incredible sense of humor, kindness and happiness. She took pride in keeping a clean house, meticulously folded laundry, and preparing delicious meals. Shirley and her daughter enjoyed visiting casinos. Shirley loved video poker and hit many royal flushes. She also loved getting up-front seats at casino concerts, seeing great performers including Willie Nelson, Engelbert Humperdinck, Ray Charles and Ray Price. In 2020, Shirley was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Rather than pursuing chemotherapy or radiation medical treatments, Shirley elected to fight the cancer by enjoying the things she loved, mainly her family, country music, bird-watching, and gin and tonics.Shirley was proceeded to heaven by her husband Larry, Brother James Odegard, Sister Betty Boerger, sister Leone Loper, son-in-law Tony Morcos, and daughter-in-law Eileen Simon. Shirley is survived by her sisters Carole Faircloth and Patricia Odegard, daughter Jayne Loya, son-in-law Steve Loya, daughter Judi Morcos, son John Simon, granddaughter Shannon Linardos, grandson-in-law John Linardos, granddaughter Ashley Sisco, and five great grandchildren Farrah, Hannah, John, Connor, and Emma.A rosary will be held on Thursday, September 8 at 6:00 pm at McAulay and Wallace Mortuary in Yorba Linda. A funeral mass will be held on Friday September 9, at 10:00 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Yorba Linda. Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach.
