Irene Okerson, 93, passed away Wednesday May 29 from complications following a fall. She was preceded in death by her late husband Theodore, after 43 years of marriage. She is survived by her two sons Ted and Greg, along with six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Irene was born in Chicago of Polish immigrant parents. She met her husband and moved to Southern California in the 1940s, where she and her husband constructed their own home in Downey and raised their two sons. She worked for many decades as an accountant and office manager for a paper company, Castle Williamhouse. She enjoyed many weekends boating at Pine Flats Reservoir and Lake Havasu.
In 2002 she moved to Yorba Linda where she was active in many senior events, especially bingo on Wednesdays. She was particularly proud of her efforts to make sure the city bus was available four days a week for the seniors of her community. She also was active in the Women’s Guild at Pope John Paul II Polish Center, and for years organized many trips to various casinos in Southern California. She adored dogs, loved card games and TV game shows.
A private service and burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Jude Memorial Foundation.
