Tom went through the Yonkers Public Schools and then to Florida for College where he earned a Bachelors in Computer Programming – back in the days of punch cards for data processing. He returned to Yonkers and worked nights for the Yonkers Board of Education in their data processing unit.
After his retirement, Tom would be seen walking from his home to Sacred Heart, then down to the “end-of-the-line” and Christ the King. Everyone knew him along the way and he enjoyed his many stops in the stores and chats in the streets. Many days he would continue down to Saw Mill and back up the hills just to see his many friends and acquaintances.
Tom was a daily communicant and served as an usher at Sacred Heart for many years. He was the early bird to the 5:00 Saturday Mass so he could talk to everyone on their way into Mass. When his health started to fail, he was concerned over who would take his place. He spent the last few years in the care of the nurses and staff at St. Patrick’s Nursing Home in the Bronx.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart on Tuesday, December 10th at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
