Lifelong Yonkers New York resident Martha (Horney) Williams peacefully passed away on February 10th surrounded by her family. Martha was born in Yonkers on March 21,1942 to Ernest J. And Anna (Fetzko) Horney Sr. She graduated from Gorton High School in 1960. She married the love of her life Thomas Williams on November 16, 1963 and they spent a life filled with love and laughter for 57 years before he passed away on July 28, 2021. Martha decided to dedicate her life to being a wonderful and loving homemaker and stay at home mother. She excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of our family through and through. She raised her beautiful and incredible sons to grow as gentleman. Matthew and Christopher are both retired Captains from The Yonkers Fire Department. Martha later went on and was the owner of Martha’s Vineyard Liquor store on Lake Avenue. Everyone knew Martha.
She was blessed with the most gentle, kind and compassionate grandchildren, Kristin (Spring), Thomas, Matthew, Mallory and Courtney.
Martha was an avid bowler at Homefield Bowling Alley for over 40 years. She had many friends and was an active and well loved member of the Yonkers Community. Martha along with her beloved husband were passionate travelers with a special love for Mexico and Cape Cod where they vacationed for over 30 years.
Martha was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Anna, her sister Sandra Scangarello and her loving daughter in law Jean Williams. She is survived by her witty and loving brother Ernest Horney, his wife Roe (Nappi) Marthas sister in law and best friend, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Martha will be greatly missed.
Visitation hours are Wednesday February 14th from 4-8pm. A mass of Christian burial will occur on Thursday, February 15th at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Monastery Church. Internment will be followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
