Marion Heegle McFarlane on July 11, 2016 peacefully passed away from this world. She was born in Hastings-on-Hudson on January 19, 1922 to Adam and Elizabeth (Conklin) Heegle and moved to Yonkers at an early age. Marion married John McFarlane in 1943; he predeceased her in 2005. Marion was a loving mother to her sons John Robert McFarlane of Mt. Vernon and Kevin McFarlane of Wappinger’s Falls and a devoted grandmother to Brian McFarlane and Kelly McFarlane and her husband Andy Guich. She was a friend as well as a mother-in-law to Mary (Bena) McFarlane. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, children of three brothers and two sisters who predeceased her. Marion graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1940. Her first job was in New York City for Western Union and then Bell Telephone during World War II. She volunteered to help with the war effort from home while her husband was overseas in the Army. While she held other positions during the years, she was most proud of the work she did at the New York Division for Youth where she interacted with troubled teens. Marion loved to travel, spend social times with friends and family, and keep active by volunteering. She was a member of the Senior Center of Yonkers and then in Wappinger’s Falls and Fishkill and volunteered at St. John’s Hospital and the Hudson River Museum. An avid reader, Marion also volunteered at the Evans school in Wappinger’s and enjoyed helping young students find a love of reading. Marion will be missed for her memorable stories, sense of humor and the spirit and strength she showed throughout the years. She was deeply involved in her faith as a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Yonkers for most of her adult life, and prayer was an important aspect of her daily living. Visiting for Marion will be held at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY on Thursday July 14th from 3-8pm. A Funeral Service will be Friday in St. John’s Episcopal Church (Getty Square) at 10am. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. If anyone chooses to make a donation in Marion’s memory, please consider the Guiding Eyes for the Blind or the Hole in the Wall Gang, which caters to seriously ill children. Thank You.
