Marie A. Byrne “Cidy” ( Lowery ) of Yonkers, died on Saturday February 25, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer at her daughter’s home in Croton-on-Hudson at age 81. Born on September 13, 1929 to Michael and Marie (Ronan) Lowery in Yonkers where she was raised and graduated from Roosevelt H.S. Mrs. Byrne worked as a corrections officer for the Westchester County Department of Corrections for over 20 years, retiring in 1990. In June 1950, she married Michael C. Byrne from Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland in St. Margaret’s Church in Yonkers. He died in 1974. Marie was a parishioner of Christ the King Church. She was a skilled seamstress with extraordinary knitting and crocheting skills. She designed and made items from wedding gowns, Irish dance dresses and ice skating outfits to baby sweater sets, afghans and Christmas stockings. Marie is survived by her 6 children, James (Deborah) Byrne of Maybrook, N.Y., Patricia (Sean) Riordan of Yonkers, Alice (Jim) McCluskey of Thornwood, Betty Ann Rice of Croton on Hudson, Marie (Chris) Saline of Chappaqua and Pamela (Bob) Murphy of Cornwall-on-Hudson. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and her sisters Gail Pine, Edna Neidig and Alice Lemischak. Also survived by her sister in law Roberta Lowery, her brother in law Skip Pine and two sons. She was predeceased by her son Michael C. Byrne Jr. in 1972, her son-in-law Charles W. Rice Jr. (Sergeant for the Westchester County Police Dept.) in 2009 and her brother Mickey Lowery. Visiting hours will be at Whalen & Ball F.H. on Sunday from 4 to 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial in Christ the King Church on Monday February 28th at 10AM. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
