Joseph Cardone

March 25th, 2024.

He was born on April 28, 1931 in Tagliacozzo, Italy. He immigrated to the

United States on December 26, 1951 aboard the Vulcania, and settled in Yonkers, New York.

Joseph worked as a tool-and-die maker, while preparing to have his fiance, Teresa, join him in

Yonkers. He always told the story of his two-hour commute each way while attending trade

school, six days a week in all weather conditions. Every Christmas day, Joseph would also

proudly recount his long and treacherous journey across the Atlantic when he came to this

country. He loved reading about history, business, and biographies, and read for hours each

day. Joseph loved his garden of tomatoes, investing in the stock market, shopping for food with

his daughter, watching soccer and tennis with his grandsons, and watching old films, especially

The Godfather. He always said that he would have loved to become a stockbroker if he had the

opportunity. Every Sunday, Joseph would make pasta for himself and his grandsons, which he

took great joy in. Joseph could not be dragged away when there was snow to be shoveled,

especially in his later years. He also loved to build, repair, and paint things around the house

and help out whenever needed. Joseph married his devoted and loving wife, Teresa, in 1957 in

Italy. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them, and was so proud of

them. Joseph is survived by his daughter, Lorena (David Simko) of Yonkers, son, Robert (Kari)

of Darien, C.T., and four loving grandchildren, Andrew, Jared, Nicholas, and Kira. He is also

survived by his brother, Frank Sr. He was predeceased by his sister, Elisea. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on

Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. A mass will be held at Our Lady of

Mount Carmel Church in Yonkers on Thursday, March 28th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to

follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. In lieu of followers, donations in Joseph’s

name may be sent to St. John’s Riverside Hospital, The American Lung Association, or The

American Heart Association. Joseph’s family would like to express their gratitude to all his

doctors, nurses, and staff, especially on the fourth floor south of St. John’s Riverside Hospital for

all their hard work, compassion, and dedication towards our father.
