Elizabeth was born on February 5, 1929, to Marcellus “Marko” and Theodosia (Pawczyk) Homa. She was the youngest of ten children.
Elizabeth attended Yonkers Public Schools, graduating with a concentration in business/bookkeeping from Commerce High School. For many years she was an administrative assistant in the engineering department of AT&T in White Plains. After a hiatus to raise her family, she returned to work at Richmond Children’s Center in Yonkers, and the National Auto Dealers Association. She retired from Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry. She was a parishioner at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2020; brothers Peter, Paul, Emil, John, Walter “Happy”, and Frank; and sisters Helen and Pauline. She is survived by her children Nadine (Alan) of New City, NY, and son Christopher (Mischella) of Monroe, NY; grandchildren Katelyn E. Reicher (Jesse Weiser) of Mill Valley, CA, Robert G. Reicher, Allison R. Schneider, and Mitchell S. Schneider of New City, NY; sister Dorothy Warycka of Wilmington, NC; sister-in-law Helen Homa of Wayne, NJ; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Affectionately known as “Grandma Tootsie” to her grandchildren, she will be missed for the hugs and kisses only grandma could give, her famous scrambled eggs, Christmas cookie baking marathons, pierogi making for Ukrainian Christmas, her “grandma-isms”, and holiday traditions that will be passed down for generations.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4pm – 8pm at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, Yonkers, NY. The Panakhyda Service will be at 7:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be on Friday 9:30am in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yonkers, NY. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
