Dorothy (Dottie/ Dot) Samoyedny passed away at her home surrounded by family after a two-year battle with Merkle Cell Carcinoma.
She was the beloved wife of Henry (“Hank”) for 57 years, loving mother to Henry (Anne), Patricia Girard (Tim), Theresa Smith (Dan) and Scott (Cristina).
She was a loving grandmother to Alexis, Kimberly, Amber, Kacie, Helen, Daniel, Peanut, Scottie and Ashlee, and great-grandmother to Riley. She also has many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is pre-deceased by her father, Frances Johnson, mother, Alice Johnson, and her sister, Florence LaPera (Joe).
Dorothy created a warm and loving home filled with many memories. She retired from the NY Railroad years ago, where she met her best friend, Marie Furnari. Once her children were old enough, she went back to work at Elizabeth Seton College (which merged into Iona College) where she was the Secretary to the President, and then went to work for Westchester County Medical Center until she retired.
Dorothy was passionate about cooking, especially family dinners, and she loved to experiment with new recipes. She enjoyed gardening and reading. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Anthony’s Church in Yonkers, where she was the Treasurer of the Altar Society.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 7th from 3-7pm at Whalen-Ball Funeral home in Yonkers. A funeral mass will be on Friday, Nov. 8th at 11am at St. Anthony’s Church in Yonkers. Final Disposition is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dorothy’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
