He was born on September 28, 1935, the second of five children to Ejner Henry and Ruth Reta Menter Andreasen of Falmouth, Maine. Dick attended the Falmouth School system and graduated from Falmouth High School in 1954. In his late teens and early adult years, he was a volunteer firefighter for the Falmouth Fire Department.
In 1953, he was drafted and joined the Maine Army National Guard, Heavy Mortar Division, proudly serving his country until 1961.
In 1956, while working at Johnson’s Market on Wilmont Street in Portland, Maine, Dick spotted a young woman walking down the street that he just had to meet. So, in Dick’s mischievous, fun-loving way - after hooting and hollering at her did not get her attention - he threw an apple at her. That did not work either. Lucky for him, the apple missed her. They met the next day and on August 9, 1958, they were married at the Emmaus Lutheran Church in Falmouth, Maine. They remained married for 66 years until Dick’s passing.
Dick was employed for over 20 years at Oakhurst Dairy as a home delivery milk man until Oakhurst ceased their home delivery service. From there, Dick was employed at Shaw’s Supermarkets for 20 years and then finished his final working years at the Cumberland and Westbrook School Departments as a custodian.
Dick is predeceased by his parents Ruth and Ejner Andreasen, his brothers Robert and John Andreasen, late of Cumberland, Maine and his sister Virginia Andreasen-Hamilton, late of Portland, Maine.
Dick is survived by his wife Marolyn Greenwald Andreasen, his oldest daughter Karen Andreasen Bennett (Robert) and their daughter Katherine, all of Falmouth, his youngest daughter Susan Andreasen Heins (Jeffrey) and their daughter Victoria Skillin (Lee) and their sons Waylon and Milo Skillin all of Falmouth, Maine; a sister Judith Reed of Standish.
A funeral service will be held at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, Maine, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow directly after the funeral at Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 88, Falmouth, Maine.
