Falmouth, ME - Marjorie Cannon Theobald (89) passed away on November 8th after a long illness. Her family was at her side. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was born in Scranton, PA in 1921, to James Cannon and Helen Kearney, both deceased. Since an early age she lived at St. Patrick’s Orphanage in Scranton, PA until she graduated from St. Patrick’s High School.
During WWII she married Bernard J. Theobald, now also deceased. After the war they made their home in Scranton and had three children. Fiercely independent, she worked in various positions while raising her children. She retired as a garment worker in 1986. In 1987, she moved to Maine to be with her daughter and help care for her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Freeport, ME.
Marjorie was a wonderful person who loved her family intensely and gave of her time unselfishly. She donated generously to charities and causes. She will be greatly missed, but forever in our thoughts.
She is survived by her children: a son, Bernard J. Theobald Jr. and daughter-in-law, Barbara Theobald, residing in Clayton, CA; a daughter, Marjorie T. Richardson and son-in-law, William Richardson, residing in Yarmouth, ME; another daughter, Patrice Theobald, died at the age of 2 years. She has four grandchildren: Jason Theobald and Joanna Bramblet from Walnut Creek, CA; James Whitney Richardson from Yarmouth, ME and Katherine M. Richardson from Brooklyn Heights, NY.
Viewing for family and friends will be at Vanston & James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash Street, Scranton, Pa., from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, November 12, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Church on Jackson Street in West Scranton. Burial will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 1708 Oram Street, Scranton, PA.
