Freeport – Irma Gould Howard, 85, of Freeport passed from this life to the next on Wednesday August 5, 2015, in Ocala, FL. She was born in Freeport on January 14, 1930, a daughter of Margaret (Murray) and Albert Gould. She graduated from Potter Academy in Sebago and after married Harland “Bud” Howard in 1948.
Through the years, Irma worked at several Freeport companies. First at the lace factory followed by Freeport Shoe and she retired from LL Bean where she was the mail room supervisor. Once retired she devoted a great deal of her time to quilting, with over 100 quilts to her credit, some of them hand stitched. She liked crafts, camping and traveling. She and Bud travelled to every state and every province. She and Bud also enjoyed square and round dancing, not only locally and in New England, but also in Florida as well.
Irma will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and great love of family. Simply put, Irma was a wonderful woman who was genuine and truly interested in what others had to say. With a smile on his face, Bud remembers Irma as being “very patient”.
Irma is survived by her husband of 67 years (together for 70), Bud Howard of Freeport; her three sons: James A. Howard of Freeport; Stephen E. Howard of Utah; Michael A. Howard of Freeport; her daughter Wendy M. Howard of Florida; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); her sisters: Daphne Gagnon of CT; Clara Muller of FL; Ulla Stowell of Portland; Velma Gagne of NH; her brother Robert Gould of OK; as well as a large extended family. She was predeceased by her grandson, Christopher Michael Howard; three sisters: Eleanor Moody, Evelyn Osgood, Adelaide Moore and her brother Albert Gould, Jr.
Visiting hours will be on Friday August 14 from 5 – 7 PM at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held on Saturday August 15 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Freeport, 185 Main Street, Freeport, ME with Rev. Sandy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Burr Cemetery, 56 Durham Road, Freeport.
