Design Engineer
YARMOUTH - Garfield Blaine Ingraham, 92, died Monday, December 24th, 2012, at Fallbrook Woods in Portland. He was a long-time resident of Falmouth and Cousins Island. He was born in 1920, in Houlton, Maine, the son of Walter Clyde Ingraham, Houlton, Maine and Ola Ellen Clark of Sherman Mills, Maine. He graduated from Portland High School and the Lodwick School of Aeronautics, Lakeland, Florida.
Mr. Ingraham served in the Air Force Cadet Program during WWII. He joined the Research and Development Department of Saco-Lowell Shops in Biddeford and later joined Southworth Machine Company as a design engineer. Mr. Ingraham retired in 1985, after 39 years of machine design at Southworth, serving both national and international markets in textile, material handling, and paper mills. His creative designs earned him several patents.
Mr. Ingraham was a member of the Falmouth Congregational Church and a frequent visitor to the Yarmouth Congregational Church and the Cousins Island Chapel. He was proud to work on the restoration project of the Kotzschmar Memorial Organ located in Merrill Auditorium in Portland. He enjoyed playing the organ, designing clocks, sailing, architecture, mechanical design and endless creative hours in his woodworking shop.
His spouse of 52 years, Barbara Stephens Ingraham, predeceased him in 1994. Surviving are daughter, Lisa A. Romeo, her husband Richard, and their children Megan Tarling, Eric Romeo, and Christopher Romeo of Cape Elizabeth; daughter Pamela B. Ingraham-Foster, her husband David, and their daughter Anastasia Ingraham-Foster of Bristol, England; son William G. Ingraham of Windham; and son Curtis B. Ingraham, his wife Elaine, and their son Benjamin Ingraham of Cumberland.
