North Yarmouth, ME- David Stephen Gagnon, 66, of North Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 3, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones following a short and aggressive battle with cancer. David was born in Lewiston on April 30, 1958 and was the 3rd of 5 siblings. His family relocated to Cumberland, where he graduated in 1976. It was there that he met his wife, Judy of 43 years. They were high school sweethearts. In 2016, after raising their family elsewhere, David and Judy moved back to Cumberland/North Yarmouth to be closer to their daughter, Danielle, her husband Miles, and their grandkids, Cameron (10), Madison (8), and Annalise (1.5). His family was his world. He worked in the fire alarm sales industry for the bulk of his career, having attained the NICET level 4 certification, a rare accomplishment in his field--but his family always came first. He was best known for being “Mr. Fix It” and completed a number of home renovations, buildings, and stone work projects for friends and family. He always had a vision to make things just a little bit better. He was, self-taught, self-motivated, dependable and the hardest worker. He had a strong sense of loyalty and believed that any time he could be making someone’s life a little better, he should do it. If you needed him, he was there. He always knew what to do. David also loved sports, and in addition to being an accomplished athlete himself, he was an active participant in coaching youth sports for much of his life. David coached basketball and soccer through South Portland Parks and Recreation for many years as well as varsity basketball for NYA. He also started programs for kids in both Lyman and at Holy Cross School, and was a basketball official for many years. Most recently, David enjoyed watching and cheering on his grandkids at their sporting events. He was always available to play in the yard, find a skating rink, court or field. His presence will be sorely missed by those who loved him.
David is survived by his wife, Judy Taylor Gagnon, daughter Danielle Gagnon Hunt, her husband Miles Hunt, their three children, Cameron, Madison and Annalise, his siblings Daniel Gagnon, Diana Carr and Gail Carver, his godson Christopher Gagnon and a large extended family including many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Merile and Mildred Gagnon, his brother Mark Gagnon and his daughter Allison Leigh Gagnon.
The family would like to also thank the care team at Andwell Hospice House and Dr. Steven Dobieski for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spread some kindness to others today. Whether it’s holding a door for a stranger, buying someone a cup of coffee, giving a compliment, or something else, we hope that you can find something to make someone’s day just a little bit better.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life at 4 pm on June 30, 2024, at Val Halla Golf Course, 60 Val Halla Rd. in Cumberland. As space is limited for parking, those planning to attend have been asked to carpool if possible.
