Walter Herman Seabrands

On April 3, 2023 Walter H Seabrands age 96 went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Tenor section of the heavenly choir received a new member! Walter was born in Yakima and grew up on an orchard in Buena graduating from Zillah High. Walter then served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as an aircraft engineer in southern France. He continued his service when he got home to Yakima as a mail carrier for 34 years with the United States Postal Service. In 1957 Walt married his bride, Verna Nystrom of Wiley Heights. Walt has been very active in his faith throughout the years and music has always been a big part of that. For 16 years he was a part the the Union Gospel Mission quartet as well as singing duets with his daughter and many others at the mission as well the Ahtanum Pioneer Church choir and the Camerata Men's chorus. He was very active in church serving on the Deacon and Elder boards as well a being chairman of the Mission committee for many years. The two things most important to Walter were his Lord God and his family of which he always put them first. Walter always kept very busy and enjoyed working in his yard as well as doing car and house repairs. Every Fall Walt and the family would pick apples in his Father In-Law's orchard on Wiley Heights. Upon retirement Walt and Verna took a trip of a lifetime to Europe to meet with relatives in Germany and Sweden. They loved it so much they went back a few years later to discover more of Europe. Walt and Verna also discovered a love of camping. They bought a truck and trailer and had many adventures around Washington as well as Arizona and New Mexico. In his later years he spent lots of time reading and read through the bible every year for many years. Even when Alzheimers had taken his ability to read he would sit holding his treasured bible in his lap.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Verna of Vancouver, WA , daughter Janet Seabrands of Vancouver, WA, son Donald Seabrands of Walla Walla, WA, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
